Tolerating Others
We were lucky enough to have a guest speaker talk to us about tolerance. His name was Cam Calkoen. Cam has cerebral palsy.
Doctors warned his parents that Cam may never be able to walk without the aid of crutches, and may have even needed a wheelchair to get around. But Cam was determined. He pushed himself and never gave up.
Cam didn't see cerebral palsy as a disability. He didn't feel sorry for himself because other people's lives may have been a bit easier. He just kept going.
Today Cam travels the world telling people to dream big, and achieve more.
He wants people to look at how awesome our lives can be. Everyday we make choices in our lives that affect the rest of the day, that affect those around us.
His message was that being different to others is awesome.
We should celebrate each other's differences. It is cool that we are different to each other. We have different cultures, different beliefs, different ideas. Let's not put other people down because they are different. Let's tolerate it. Let's celebrate it.
How awesome can you make your life today?
How awesome can you make the lives of those around you?
That's quite a challenge. Thank you Cam.
