Working Together

In Room 14, we sometimes work by ourselves, and we sometimes work together in groups. It is important that we learn to work well with other people, including people we don't normally choose to work with.

One of the Key Competencies in the NZ Curriculum is Relating To Others. The curriculum says that this competency "includes the ability to listen actively, recognise different points of view, negotiate, and share ideas."

These skills are also called 21st Century Skills. It will be even more important in the future to be able to work well together. Most jobs will require this skill.

Mr Waller uses a random group generator to put us in groups with any class member. We are sometimes with our best friends, and sometimes not.

Kiwi Can Champs

We are the Papatoetoe West School 'Kiwi Can' champions for Term 1. We thoroughly deserve the title because, as a group we always try and support each other and to work together. We learned a lot in Term 1 about how we can communicate with each other better in positive ways.

For our last session, we used facial expressions to show an emotion or thought. Our partner moved our body, arms and legs into different positions.

We had a lovely shared lunch with our two wonderful 'Kiwi Can' tutors Mr Matau and Mrs Ikifetoko.

Introducing Ourselves to Glenbrook Elementary in Illinois, USA

Here is our introductory video explaining a little bit about ourselves. We used our new video editing programme called Pinnacle 20 to put all the recordings together. Our film editors were Reno and Lucas.

Glenbrook Elementary School

We will be connecting and communicating with Glenbrook Elementary School in Illinois, USA at different times over the rest of the year. Their teacher is Ellen Smith.

We have made one video to help introduce ourselves and will be making another one this week.

Our teachers will be reading the same book to our classes and we will all discuss different ideas from the story. The first book we are going to share is The One And Only Ivan, by Katherine Applegate.
