Last week we had to demonstrate perseverance and determination. Each team had to work out a way to get their whole team over an electric fence. Getting a few people over was easy. Getting everybody over the fence took teamwork and planning.

Kiwi Can
We love our weekly Kiwi Can session with Mr Matau and Ms Falanitama. We have discussions about how we can all become better people. We practice our school values "Respect for Ourselves, Respect for Others, and Respect for our Environment." We play games that help us demonstrate these values to others.

Kiwi Can
We love our Kiwi Can session each week. Mr Matau and Miss Falanitama help us with making good decisions about the way we treat other people and interact with each other. Kiwi can is run by the Graeme Dingle Foundation. You can find out more about what this wonderful foundation does to support our community here.
We love Kiwi Can. It is always fast paced and the learning is supported by games and activities. Our focus is always on social skills and trying to be the best person we can be.
The game this week were Circle Races and Snakes. The head of each snake had to try and remove the tail of the other snake. Most times, one snake broke apart and was disqualified.
Keep it up Mr Matau and Miss Falanitama. You are both awesome, even if Google doesn't know how to spell your names.

Working Together
In Room 14, we sometimes work by ourselves, and we sometimes work together in groups. It is important that we learn to work well with other people, including people we don't normally choose to work with.
One of the Key Competencies in the NZ Curriculum is Relating To Others. The curriculum says that this competency "includes the ability to listen actively, recognise different points of view, negotiate, and share ideas."
These skills are also called 21st Century Skills. It will be even more important in the future to be able to work well together. Most jobs will require this skill.
Mr Waller uses a random group generator to put us in groups with any class member. We are sometimes with our best friends, and sometimes not.

Kiwi Can Champs
We are the Papatoetoe West School 'Kiwi Can' champions for Term 1. We thoroughly deserve the title because, as a group we always try and support each other and to work together. We learned a lot in Term 1 about how we can communicate with each other better in positive ways.
For our last session, we used facial expressions to show an emotion or thought. Our partner moved our body, arms and legs into different positions.

We had a lovely shared lunch with our two wonderful 'Kiwi Can' tutors Mr Matau and Mrs Ikifetoko.

Buddy Classes
We are buddy classes with Room 33. They are much younger than us and we can be good role models for them.
