This is the best way to learn how to swim. Our instructors are in the water with us. They can not just tell us what to do, they can show us.

Welcome 2018

It's great to be back for another stimulating year of learning.

I am thrilled to have all my Year 5's from last year join me for another year. I can't wait to see them grow and develop even further.

We had our first session at Papatoetoe Pools with our swimming trainers. As New Zealanders, it is important to make sure we are all confident in and around water. Too many kiwis drown every year. All of us live close to beaches, rivers and lakes. Water is a big part of our environment and it is sad that too many of us lose our lives in our aquatic playgrounds.

This is the best way to learn to swim. Our instructors are in the water with us. They can support us when we are struggling much better than a teacher on the sideline.

Confidence Wearing Life Jackets

Every Monday, we go to the Papatoetoe Pools for swimming lessons. This week, we went into deep water with life jackets on. We had to trust the life jacket for buoyancy.

We did a variety of activities, including jumping off the side into the water, and holding onto others to help support them in the water.

We had a great time as our confidence grew. We all passed with flying colours...

Swimming Lessons

Every Monday morning at 9.00am, we go to the Papatoetoe Sports Centre for swimming lessons. Whaea Pauline picks us up in the mini bus.

When we get to the pools, we get into three groups. Each group has their own instructor. Our instructors get into the water with us. They can show us what we need to work on to improve our stroke. They can support us if we need a bit of extra help.

It is a great way of learning how to swim. It is a shame that not everyone in the class brings their togs each Monday and make the most of this valuable time.
